I'm sure that many of you don't know that I took a second job in May. Now, this is not how it sounds. I'm not really working a second job- unless you count being a full-time mom and part-time recovery room nurse. But, I was interviewed over the phone for an immunization company out of Arizona- Mollen Immunizations- last spring and was hired on the spot. They hire nurses around the country to give immunizations, primarily flu shots, in retail stores such as Wal-mart and Sam's Club. I don't necessarily endorse the flu shot, but if people want to get them, I'll get paid to give them :-) It's a seasonal position that runs from the end of Aug to mid-Nov. I have gotten lots of requests to pick up shifts, but nothing worked out with my schedule until today. I worked my first shift at Sam's Club in our area.
All my training was done on-line and I was to be working alone, so that made me nervous. I don't like having no one to ask questions. There were several numbers to depts in the company to call in case of a question. Maybe it was excessive, but I ended up calling 5 different depts today for questions! I hope I didn't mess anything up especially people's insurance information. Overall, the seven hours went by quickly. I gave 20 shots, met some nice people (and a couple snippy ones), and sat for a few hrs watching people shop. I learned that a lot more people buy pistachios in bulk than I ever realized! I also learned that Sam's now has a self-checkout if you pay with debit or credit card :-) There was a lot of downtime that I couldn't figure out any other way to arrange the table or straighten up, so I read an e-book on my phone for at least 2 hrs (one for my class!) I also got to have Sam's pizza for lunch which I love! All in all, a good day. I'm not sure if it will work out to pick up any more shifts, but I found an easy job for a little extra money.
Josh was a great dad today, too! He did some work on the house, took everyone to Tommy's soccer game, and even made dinner before I got home. Now, it's time to relax for both of us!
Wow!! That's a great "side" job, although I probably would be as freaked out as you being all by myself. I'm glad you had a break from the norm and even ate Sam's pizza as a bonus. If I were in town, I would have come visit you - but I wouldn't have rolled my sleeve up. ;)
ReplyDeleteAny excuse to eat Sam's pizza is a good one.
