As the much anticipated 5th birthday of Sam and Nate approached, Josh and I talked about if/when we would have a party for them. They haven't had a formal party since they turned 1 year. We thought 5 years old was a good year for a friend party. We decided to have it for them a week early since their birthday falls on our first night of church small groups. We told them we were having it early so they could be with their friends.
I decided to do a "hand" theme for the party. I made games that had hands in them or they did with their hands. My first project was making a pinata! No easy task! But, I found a tutorial on how to make one out of cardboard instead of the traditional paper-mache. The easiest design I decided was the yellow Angry Bird (from the game Angry Birds on my phone) The twins love that!! But, I didn't want them to think this was an Angry Birds party.
Then, I traced their bodies on large paper that Josh brought home from work. We were going to play the game "Pin the Hands on Sam and Nate" like the traditional "Pin the Tail on the donkey" They thought this was great and were more than eager to let me trace them!
The next step was to make their cake. Of course they wanted to help and be a part of the whole process.

We did their handprints on the cake in keeping with the theme. They thought it was cool that I "painted" their hands with frosting before they put them on the cake.
So, Sunday, the day of the party, came and they were so excited we could barely contain them! We had them take naps so they wouldn't be too cranky! Unfortunately, Tommy decided after an hour, they needed to get up :( It wasn't long enough.
