Final gorgeous days of fall

This week was a mix of rainy, cool days and warm sunny ones. Friday was the perfect end to the week. A day full of sunshine and 70 degree temps made my heart soar! I love these warm fall days. The boys and I played outside for a few hours. I let them run and jump and burn off all the energy thry could. I enjoyed having the sun warm me to the core. I know this may be one of the last days like this.
I spent the afternoon cleaning out my garden. This was my third year gardening and in some ways the worst. I had a slug problem early on. Then my tomato plants were slowly destroyed by early blight. For some reason, my green bean plants never really did much and my deck plants weren't thriving. We still got lots of peas, peppers, lettuce, kale, and Swiss chard. But slowly everything has died off. I took the chance to weed and pull up the dead stuff. I always hope the next year is better and I learn more.
On a whim, I decided to run before dinner after Josh arrived home. It was wonderful to get out and off the treadmill. Since it had been a long time that I had run outside, I went faster than I'm used to and was struggling until I was done. Only a few minutes post-run, I remembered why I like running so much! The wonderful, exhausted, fresh, and cleaned out feeling that only comes after a good workout!
We ended the night with a backyard bonfire. There was much house debris that needed to be burned. The boys loved watching the fire and then playing in a dishwasher box for the longest time. I still say the best toys are boxes!! They were so tired at the end of the day. It was the kind of day I wish we had more often.
